Ülker’s International Success in Sustainability

Continuing to put itself of on the national and world map when it comes to sustainability, Ülker has become the first and only Turkish company make its way into S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2021 (Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2021) in the food category.

Turkey’s number one food company Ülker is now one of the world’s top 631 companies according to The Sustainability Yearbook 2021 (prepared by S&P Global, an international rating agency). The Yearbook features 7,000 companies from across 61 sectors according to how well they perform in terms of environmental, social, and governance criteria.

Ülker’s CEO Mete Buyurgan stated that Ülker ranked alongside 20 other companies the food production company, and that it is the only Turkish firm to do so. Proud of that fact, he added:

“Ülker employs a waste-free policy. We are working tirelessly to leave behind a livable world for our children and grandchildren, and to make our business a sustainable one. We’ve been engaged in a variety of sustainability-oriented since 2014. We’ve been oon the Borsa İstanbul Sustainability Index since 2015, and on the FTSE4Good Emerging Markets Index (the global sustainability index) since 2016. Now we are reaping the fruit of our labor both here at home and abroad. That shows us that we’re the right track.”

Buyurgan stated that Ülker’s efforts start from from the soil, and include all stakeholders from producers and suppliers to business partners and consumers. He went on to say:

Our goals our many: conserving water and energy, reducing waste, protecting food, capitalizing on human resources, supplying sustainable raw materials, and producing quality goods. Our projects thus reflect that. Everything we do is in line with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We want to grow in a sustainable manner without wasting so much as single resource. We hope to continue to raise our nation’s standards through by producing, investing in, employing, and exporting only the best.”
