Ülker has been the only Turkish company that took place in S&P Global ESG 2021 Index, in which the sustainability performances of the companies in the whole world are evaluated. It also succeeded at ranking among the top three within 37 companies from different industries in Türkiye that took place in the index.

Türkiye’s leading food company Ülker has also continued to increase its score this year in ESG 2021 Index (Environmental, Social and Governance Related), in which over 1000 companies worldwide are evaluated and which is carried out by international credit rating agency S&P Global.

Ülker, which has made a name for itself thanks to the sustainability projects it has carried out in the recent years, succeeded at ranking among the top three among 37 companies from different industries in Türkiye that took place in the index. It has been the only food company from Türkiye which was evaluated in the category of food industry. Ülker succeeded at ranking in the top 6 percent thanks to its score among 115 food companies across the world that took part in the study.

Ülker’s CEO Mete Buyurgan said that the successful performance they have displayed in the sustainability projects has been proved one more time thanks to their progress in S&P Global ESG Index 2021.

Buyurgan continued his words as follows: “At Ülker, the principle of being a ‘no waste company’ is at the centre of our entire activities. Since 2014, we have grown without increasing the carbon emissions. We continue to work with our long-term goals under the 6 titles of environment, value chain, innovation, employees, social responsibility and leadership. We operate with an understanding that focuses on growing and strengthening along with our society and stakeholders in the sustainability projects we have carried out. We have been the only evaluated food company from Türkiye by increasing our score in S&P Global ESG Index consistently every passing year. The recognition of our sustainability achievements in the international platforms increases our motivation further in this matter. 2021 has been the year when the steps we have taken in line with this matter made a splash. We will continue to pioneer the food industry thanks to our sustainability projects in the upcoming period, too.

The successes achieved by Ülker in the field of sustainability in the recent year:

  • Ülker has represented Türkiye in all of the 5 categories as the only Turkish company which has managed to be shortlisted for 2022 edie Sustainability Leaders Awards, which is one of the most prestigious platforms in its field in the whole world.
  • Ülker has been among the first 631 companies in the list, in which 7000 companies from 61 industries are evaluated in the whole world as a part of Corporate Sustainability Assessment (The Sustainability Yearbook 2021), where the companies, whose environmental, social and governance related performances are the best across the world, are listed. It managed to be the first and only Turkish company among 20 global companies in the category of food products.
  • According to the results of Climate Change and Water Safety programme as a part of international environmental reporting platform Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP-Climate Disclosure Project) 2021, it has maintained its score this year thanks to its climate change related works. It raised water reduction ratio per unit above the targeted 30% in 2014 and increased this ratio up to 35.4% in 2020. It increased its water score up to B- level by raising one more scale thanks to its innovative works in this field.
  • It won the grand prize with its “Sustainable Water Management” model in the Water Management Category of 8th Sustainable Business Awards held by Sustainability Academy.
