Mini footballers meet at Football Villages!

Ülker, the biggest supporter of sports in Turkey, has been investing in the sports of football and basketball for many years, not only in high profile ways, but also in less obvious ways, by contributing to developing the infrastructure of sports. This is achieved by encouraging young people and children to become interested and actively involved in sports, getting them out of the bleachers and on to the playing field.

In 2007, Ülker, within the scope of its social responsibility policy, signed an agreement with the Turkish Football Federation to sponsor all of the federation’s HERKES için FUTBOL-Grassroots projects.  The project does not only cover physical activities.  It is a social project that is also enriched with instruction on environmental awareness and balanced nutrition.

The year the Grassroots project was established, one of its most important events took place when the first Football Village was organized in Van.  That year, Football Villages were also organized in the four provinces of Sinop, Sivas, Isparta and Bolu. A total of 660 children stayed at the camp for 9 days each.  During their stay, they played football and learned about fair play, environmental issues and balanced nutrition.  The children, who came from various Turkish provinces, established close relationships and lasting friendships while they were at the camp.

A brand name sponsor of Football Villages was Çokokrem. The July 28th Football Village held in Sinop was the first one that was organized exclusively for female students. In the near future, girls’ Football Villages will also take place in Isparta, Bolu and Sivas.
